Welcome to Cypress Mill, Texas

Happy Cow beef is exclusively from the Casey ranch in Cypress Mill, Blanco County, TX.  Kat is a 7th generation rancher, 8th generation Texan.  The ranch was purchased in the 1800’s by Kat’s enterprising triple-great-uncle. Although there were times that the ranch focused on milling lumber and raising goats, the land seems particularly suited to cattle ranching.  Generation after generation, the family has maintained the focus on not over-grazing, on preserving the native grasses and using humane, gentle cattle handling.  The effort made over many years has led to Kat’s father being recognized as the 2019 Conservation Rancher for the entire state of Texas.  We think that’s a pretty big deal.

If you’re a history buff, you can find a book online that describes the journey from Germany to Texas and the early days on the ranch. Memoirs of a Texas Pioneer Grandmother was written by Kat’s feisty triple- great grandmother Ottilie Fuchs Goeth

We generally keep around 30 mamma cows and 2 bulls.  The cows are hand selected for their mothering - being good at calving, making milk and growing healthy, strong babies.  The bulls are selected for their small birth-weight and fast-growing babies.  This combination means that we don’t intervene in the baby making process on the ranch.  No artificial insemination, no pulling calves.  Because our mommas have been hand selected over the years, there is a mix of many different breeds.  Our current bulls are 100% Black Angus.  The beef we sell is mostly Angus, all delicious.

All of this is tied to our strong belief that we are called to be good stewards of these animals,

this ranch, and all the families who are fed from our products.
